Immigration Reform Postcard Campaign will take place from January 3-9, which coincides with National Migration Week.  This is sponsored by the Justice for Immigrants Campaign of the US Bishops Conference.  Check out www.justiceforimmigrants.org which is available in Spanish if you clique down to the bottem left.  The Campaign involves Church groups and friends circulating pre-printed post cards and sending them to Congress in bulk–thousands of postcards!  More information about the campaign will be available next week.  In the meantime, now is a good time to start discussing how to promote participation in such a campaign, ie. hand out postcards to be signed during Sunday masses (English & Spanish & other languages), organizing participation with neighboring parishes, churches, education centers, and community groups, etc.
“The so-called ‘illegals’ are so not because they wish to defy the law; but, because the law does not provide them with any channels to regularlize their status in our country–which needs their labor:  they are not breaking the law, the law is breaking them.”                                              -Most Reverend Thomas Wenski, Bishop of Orlando
Alejandro Aguilera says that National Joven Encuentro Conclusions are available in Engish and Spanish bi contacting www.usccbpublishing.org or 1-800-235-8722 or aaguilera@usccb.org
“Posada: A Night to Cross All Borders,”  a new, magnificent DVD is available.  It profiles three immigrant teens who crossed the border without their parents and one family who has suffered disintegration, incarceration, and deportation.  These profiles are interwoven with Posadas, the Central American Catholic novena tradition of making prayerful processions recalling Joseph & Mary seeking lodging.
It is in English, with options for Spanish sub-titles.  It can be utilized as an outstanding instrument for making church members and friends aware of our immigrants’ plight.  If you would like a free copy, then please contact www.posadas-project.com or mtighe@networklobby.org or 202-347-9797 ext. 204
